Faith Needs Art

Faith needs art. We need things to stir us. Does the art we make stir something deep inside? Is it for entertainment only? Do we create authentically?

What purpose does art play in faith? What role does it play in our beliefs and in our spirits?

Layers

Things that are physical are on one layer, one dimension, one plane. There is another layer. A deeper layer coursing underneath. We don’t always admit it is there, we try to joke around it with sarcasm or hang of curtain of logic over it.

But it is there.

And we all know it.

And feel it.

That certain song reminds us. That favorite place in nature. That piece of design. That poem. That photo. That classic novel. That person. That film.

Depths

Art shows the spiritual layer. It calls from deep place, reminds us of what we feel in the depths down inside us. Faith needs art. We need things to stir us. We need things that make us feel uncomfortable.

Does the art we make stir something deep inside? Is it for entertainment only? Do we create authentically?
